Get to Know Don Layman
I grew up in Oregon and absolutely love it here. Growing up here has taught me how important it is to raise a family in a place that you love. I believe everything starts with a desire to serve. I love being able to help homebuyers purchase a home with the mortgage best-suited for their specific needs - whether that is a first home, a second home, investment property, or using the equity in their current home to buy their next home.
I also enjoy being able to work as a team with a client to help decide if it's the right time for them to refinance to consolidate debt or take some cash out. It's not always the best solution for everyone at the time, and I take pride in the fact that I will let a client know when a strategy is not correct for them even if that means I can't work with them at the time. I believe that being a trusted advisor to my clients doesn't always mean closing a deal for them at the time, but by doing the right thing I build clients that reach out to me with financial questions for life.
Communication is the first principle in delivering outstanding customer service. I keep all parties informed during the loan process so that no one needs to worry about the mortgage during the home-buying process. I utilize my background in mortgage processing and the knowledge of multiple loan products to find the best loan for each customer, so it meets their individual goals and needs.
At work, I'm inspired by my clients and their goals and dreams of homeownership. I also have the great fortune of being able to interact with many different clients and each client is unique. It inspires me to hear each client's dreams and aspirations in their personal and professional lives, and I love closing a transaction where I feel like I've also gained a friend. Personally, I'm inspired by my family. My drive to succeed starts with my family and wanting to give them the best life I can.
My passion outside of work is to be outdoors - anything from a simple stroll to our local park to climbing Mt Hood. There is so much beauty around us, and that's why I love helping people in our local community to achieve homeownership and be able to secure their future in this wonderful place we get to call home. There isn't much in the outdoors I'm not willing to try and I think we live in a magical place where within three hours we can be at the mountain, the beach, or the high desert skiing, snowboarding, camping, hiking, climbing, paddle boarding, surfing, and running - the list could go on forever.

Portland
Straddling the Willamette River, Oregon’s largest city offers culture, history, coffee, and many books. While Pacific Northwest winters may be damp, outdoor beauty abounds year-round. Forest Park, a 5,200-acre space that provides refuge to native wildlife, offers easy access to hiking and mountain biking trails. For a scenic stroll, head to the Lan Su Chinese Garden, the Portland Japanese Garden, or the International Rose Test Garden.
Portland is home to many family-friendly attractions, including the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, the Pittock Mansion, the Oregon Zoo, and Oaks Amusement Park, one of the country's oldest continually operating amusement parks.
Plus, readers rejoice—the City of Roses is home to Powell’s, the largest independent new and used bookstore in the world. Once you’ve picked out a book, grab a cup of coffee at Portland Coffee Roasters or Stumptown.
